Pražský spolek ochránců zvířat působí již desítky let a pod tímto názvem existuje od roku
1991. Jeho posláním je ochrana zvířat, zejména péče o opuštěná, poraněná, nemocná a
týraná zvířata. Ročně se nám daří zachránit několik stovek bezprizorných koček, kterým
po odchytu zabezpečíme veterinární ošetření a kastraci a buď je vypouštíme zpět do
původní lokality, čímž se zabrání jejímu zabydlení nově příchozími nekastrovanými a
nemocnými zvířaty, anebo jim aktivně sháníme nové majitele. Zvířata neskončí navždy
v našem útulku či depozitech: okolo 300 vyléčených a očkovaných zvířat každý rok
umístíme k novým, hodným lidem. Pražský spolek ochránců zvířat je dobrovolné sdružení
lidí, kteří se aktivně zapojují do ochrany a péče o opuštěná zvířata. Přestože máme v
názvu "Pražský", nenecháme v nouzi žádné zvíře, protože např. kočičích depozit a útulků
je žalostně málo a jejich kapacity jsou vzhledem k situaci mizivé (jen v Praze se po
ulicích pohybuje 30 - 50 tisíc bezprizorných koček!). V současné době pečujeme v našem
útulku a „dočaskách" o několik stovek zvířat, jejichž jedinou šancí je domov u hodných
lidí.
Zvířata jsou stejně jako člověk živými tvory, schopnými pociťovat bolest a utrpení, a
zasluhují si proto pozornost a ochranu ze strany člověka. Bohužel se dnes a denně
setkáváme s hladovými a nemocnými zvířaty, která živoří u popelnic, vyhnáni svými tzv.
pány, pokud je rovnou nezabili nebo nepřivázali v lese ke stromu, výjimkou nejsou ani
krabice s čerstvě narozenými koťaty, pohozené tamtéž.
V zařízeních Pražského spolku ochránců zvířat, na rozdíl od některých městských útulků u
nás i ve světě, zásadně nepraktikujeme utrácení zvířat z důvodu překročení určité doby
pobytu! Při naší činnosti jsme odkázáni výhradně na dary a příspěvky od stejně
smýšlejících lidí, firem a úřadů. Pomoci může opravdu každý, i firmy, podnikající ve
zdánlivě nesouvisejícím oboru nám pomohou významně pomoci!

Basic information
PSOZ has been active under this namesince 1991. Its mission is to protect animals, especially to care for abandoned, injured, sick and abused animals. Currently, we focus on cats, naturally domesticated, sweet and useful creatures who are struggling in alleyways, empty lots and dangerous buildingsin every neighborhood. Their lives are short and usually harsh. They struggle to find food and water in an environment filled with the constant threats of disease, starvation, cruelty and predation. They are the abandoned, the lost and the wild—and they need our help. Every year we have been able to save hundreds of homeless cats, which catch, neuter, treat with veterinarycare, vaccinated against rabies, and neuter, and either return to the original location, thus preventing contagion or actively seek adoption. This reduces unwanted breeding, excess cat populations and the spread of disease. We provide feral cats shelter, food and guardians who can help them. We treat with the approved “trap, neuter and return” (TNR) policy. This is the only proven humane and best method to manage feral cat colonies. least costly, as well as the most efficient and humane way of stabilizing feral cat populations. Through TNR, education, foster care and adoption, our goal is to end the needless suffering and killing of unwanted and abandoned animals. That said, feral cats who live in a managed colony—a colony with a dedicated caretaker who provides spay/neuter services, regular feedings and proper shelter—can live a quite content life.
Animals will notstay forever in our shelters or foster homes; about 600 cured and vaccinated animals each year find a new, worthy owners. The Prague Animal Protection Society is a voluntary association of people who are actively involved in the protection and care of abandoned animals. Although we have the name "Prague" neglect no animal in need, we adopt an animal from a different area than Prague. We return feral cats to their locations, we try to find homes for cats, because the number of our foster homes and cat shelters is woefully small and the chances for abandoned cats are are slim. On the streets of Prague alone, there are an estimated 30 to 50 thousand homeless cats. Simply put, their lives are harsh. Feral cats must endure weather extremes such as cold and snow, heat and rain. They also face starvation, infection and attacks by other animals. Currently we take a care of hundreds of animals whose only chance is the home of the good people.
Animals are like people: living creatures capable of experiencing pain and suffering, and therefore they deserve attention and protection by human beings. Unfortunately, every day we meet with hungry and sick animals that live in garbage cans, driven by their so-called masters, if not killed directly or not fasten in the woods to the tree, as also boxes with newborn kittens, thrown there.
In Prague club facilities, animal welfare, unlike some municipal shelters in our country and the world, fundamentally do not practice euthanasia of animals due to exceeding a certain period of residence! In our work we rely solely on donations and contributions from like-minded people, businesses and offices. It may help to everyone; even companies doing business in a seemingly unrelated field help us to significantly help!
